This week I was proud to commend the businesses of Sedgefieldโ both great and smallโ for their fortitude and grit over the course of the pandemic. Businesses across our country have struggled to stay afloat, but thanks to the Government's Job Retention Scheme, ยฃ70 Billion has been allocated to save British jobs.
The Opposition has called this ยฃ70 Billion lifeline a "๐ฌ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ ๐ค๐ ๐ข๐ค๐ฃ๐๐ฎโ and described our entrepreneurs as "๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐๐ข๐ฎโ.
Ministers are working hard to understand the needs of businesses and their employees at this challenging time, yet this stands in stark contrast with my time on the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee.
Opposition attendance on the Committee has been woefully low; how they can claim to champion the interests of workers remains unknown. Following shocking comments by the Opposition that the Treasury's move to Darlington was "๐ฃ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ก๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ฃ๐-๐ช๐ฅ, ๐๐ช๐ฉ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ช๐ฅ" it is explicitly clear which party is the true champion of Great British job creators.
